Yunk’ut  Whe Ts’o  Dul’eh - “We Learn From Our Land”

A Cross-Cultural Outdoor Science Camp

This is a season-based outdoor curriculum for primary school students that emphasizes the linkages between Dakelh cultural knowledge and the natural sciences.  This program takes students out onto the land and provides unique opportunities for students to learn traditional skills from Elders, to learn fieldwork methods from First Nation professionals working in natural resource management, and to experience the distinct seasons of the north from both cultural and ecological perspectives.

  • Cultural Knowledge

  • Wildlife Biology

  • Ecology

The Chuntoh Camp facility is at the Cinnabar Resort & Research Station, located on the shores of Chuzghun (Tezzeron Lake) 45 kms north of Fort St. James that includes heated cabins, toilets, showers, and cook-house.

Chuntoh is associated with the Education Department of the John Prince Research Forest (JPRF) which is co-managed by Tl’azt’en Nation and the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC).  Chuntoh has delivered the Yunk’ut Whe Ts’o Dul’eh Program to local elementary schools since 2003.

Chuntoh offers students a holistic experience that will engage and excite them about learning.  We look forward to this exciting opportunity to connect and learn from the natural world.

Thank you - Snachalya.
