Aboriginal Youth Mentoring Program

This to report where we are with this project and what to expect in the near future.

    • Seeking youth interested in a mentoring relationship form in located in the brochure link above, please complete and fax to 250-562-8206 attention Cheryl Webster. You may want your team leaders, teachers, social workers, school councilors to do this for you that is fine.

  • In the developmental stage we putting together a DVD on mentoring and looking for interested parties to submit their expereince in any program to speak to its benefits. this DVD will be used to educate community members, businesses, and organzations why mentoring is valuable and important investment for our children and youth.


Aboriginal Youth Mentoring

Currently we are conducting a survey of the aboirignal youth living in the Prince George area. Please click on the link below to complete. Thank you for input is valuable to us and assist us in implementing a program you want.

Background information

This is pilot project is funded by the Urban Aboriginal Working Group to develop a program that will meet the needs of youth living in the Prince Geoerge Area. The framework for the porgram is around build up the self-esteem of the youth, provide opportunties for training, and broaden their horizon and a communtiy sense. To provide opportunties for youth to explore and learn about all that the City of prince George has to offer, art, museum, history, and jobs and all the amenities that are within the area.

Furthermore, to keep them connected to  their culture and traditions through PG Dakelh Elders Socierty, Aboriginal organziations, and any knwoeldge holder that is willing to share their expereince  and skills with the youth. This may include but not limted to only those activities.

  • berry picking and preparing the fruit: preparing jam, drying and freezing for future use.
  • hunting
  • trapping
  • fishing
  • preparing meat for the smokehouse
  • beading & sewing
  • hide preparation
  • drum  & rattle making
  • learning about medicines
  • birch bark harvesting
