BC Government Breaks the Law
Nak’azdli today vowed to stop the Terrane Metals Mt. Milligan mine project on its traditional lands after learning the Provincial Government has continued to defy the courts and award permits and leases to the company without consulting the First Nation.
“Terrane is being advised to cease operations and leave the territory immediately,” said Chief Sam, who added Nak’azdli is calling on the support of all first Nations across BC and Canada to help protect Nak’azdli territory.
We have been patient, we have been reasonable, but we will not be bulldozed. “We will use all means at our disposal to bring attention to this issue,” said Chief Fred Sam. READ MORE...

CELEBRATION OF THE ELECTION OF A-IN-CHUT (SHAWN ATLEO) TO THE OFFICE OF NATIONAL CHIEF
On August 25, 2009, a celebration of the election of A-in-chut (Shawn Atleo) to the office of National Chief will take place at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre in North Vancouver, BC. All First Nations are welcome to attend.  If your First Nation is interested in participating in this event as a presenter, please notify the First Nations Summit at 604.926.9903 or info@fns.bc.ca

ALL CHIEFS’ ASSEMBLY ON RECOGNITION AND RECONCILIATION LEGISLATION

The following three days (August 26-28) will be an All-Chiefs’ Assembly on Recognition and Reconciliation, also at the Chief Joe Mathias Centre.  The purpose of this Assembly will be to follow-up on direction received from First Nations leaders by resolution and at recent regional and community engagement sessions, to develop a renewed mandate for the recognition and reconciliation initiative.  A draft agenda will be available in the next week.  Resources will be available to cover the travel and accommodation costs for one representative from each First Nation to attend this important meeting.
